The 183 North Project runs from MoPac Expressway and US 183 all the way up to SH 45 at 183.

The project, stretching nine miles, includes adding two tolled lanes in each direction, with the tolls going up or down based on how much traffic there is, just like they do with the MoPac Express Lanes.

This project was originally scheduled to finish at the end of this month. But there’s a lot of work left to get done.”

“They have been trying very hard to do it. They just haven’t been able to ramp up as much as they’d like,” said Mike Sexton, the lead engineer at the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.

At a board meeting late last month, he said the contractor, Great Hills Constructors, ran into delays related to paving the road and building retaining walls, among other things.

The 183 North project cost more $600 million. But Great Hills is now facing fines of $125,000 for each day they finish late. Construction is not expected to wrap up until early next year.
