Austin’s airport closing South Terminal in April

South Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will close April 1.

The building will be demolished to make space for new taxiways as part of a massive expansion of Austin's airport.

ABIA says Allegiant and Frontier will move to the Barbara Jordan Terminal April 1.

In 2022, the city of Austin attempted to use eminent domain to evict the company that had a 30-year lease to run the South Terminal, Lonestar Airport Holdings.

The city's offer to Lonestar was $1.9 million. The city wound up having to pay $88 million.

The expansion of Austin's airport will add 32 gates, almost doubling the existing number.
